Acting Social Development Officer in Ministry of Finance, Mrs Amonia Paul Rolle commended the National Assessment Team in Dominica, for their contribution to the 2008/2009 Country Poverty Assessment.

She made the commendations while addressing a national assessment team review meeting at the Garraway Hotel earlier today where NGO’s met to discuss the first draft of the CPA report.

“The issue of poverty has been at the forefront of many governments in terms of planning and this CPA report provides us with an opportune time where we can stop and re-strategize as to how we can move forward. It gives us a chance to revisit the current strategy as well,”  said Mrs Rolle.

The CPA report was funded by the government of Dominica and the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB).

Operations Officer of the CDB, Mr Mc Donald Thomas said that the role of the national assessment team would be critical in implementing and directing some of the recommendations made in the report.

“We would like to encourage the government to not only recognize the importance of the NAT but to also put measures in place to continue the work of the NAT. They can also get involved in directing the recommendations that will come out of the study,” said Thomas.

A second consultation targeting the general public will be convened at the Garraway Hotel from 9:00am on Friday, September 3rd, 2010.
