Jason Cuffy of 152 Victoria Street, Newtown pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis on Thursday September 2nd, 2010 at the Roseau Magistrate’s Court after evidence of his charge was exposed. On Tuesday 31st 2010, the police officers were conducting their normal mobile patrol when they entered Victoria Street which was at the time occupied by young men. One of the officers spotted Cuffy with a scissors and a plastic bag on a stone. When the officer approached Cuffy, ensuring that he followed normal police procedures, Cuffy said that the cannabis found in the plastic bag did not belonged to him. During his plea in mitigation at court, he said that he is guilty of smoking but not possession of the said drug. Magistrate Candia George told Cuffy that he has previously been charged with the same offence as she slapped him with a five hundred dollar ($500) fine. Jason Cuffy stands the risk of serving one month in prison if the fine is not paid by September 30th, 2010.
